Campaign Objective

Build your hereafter today by waqf a copy of the Qur’an to Muslims in Togo. The proceeds will be used to distribute 400 copies of Qur’an to families in the Sokode city, Togo.

Story

Located in West Africa, Togo is a captivating country that embodies a rich blend of history, culture, and natural beauty. Bordered by Ghana to the west, Benin to the east, Burkina Faso to the north, and the Gulf of Guinea to the south.

As of September 2021, the estimated population of Togo was around 8 million people. The country is characterized by a diverse array of ethnic groups, with the largest being the Ewe, Mina, and Kabre. Other significant ethnic groups include the Kabye, Tem, and Gurma.

The official language is French, inherited from its colonial past, but several indigenous languages are also spoken throughout the country.

Religion in Togo is diverse, with various faiths practiced throughout the country. The majority of the population identifies as followers of indigenous African religions. In addition to indigenous beliefs, Christianity has a significant presence in Togo.

Islam in Togo

Islam is another prominent religion in Togo, primarily practiced by the Muslim communities concentrated in the northern regions of the country. Islam was introduced to Togo through trade routes and has since become an integral part of the cultural fabric of these regions. Muslims in Togo follow Sunni Islam, and mosques serve as important centers for worship, education, and community activities.

Approximately 20% to 25% of the population in Togo is estimated to be Muslim. Islam has a significant presence in the northern regions of Togo, such as Kara and Sokodé, where the majority of Muslims reside.

About Sokode City

Sokode is a city located in the central part of Togo and is the second-largest city in the country after the capital, Lomé. It is an important commercial, cultural, and religious center with a vibrant and diverse population.

the population of Sokodé was estimated to be around 120,000 to 150,000 residents. The city is predominantly inhabited by the Tem people, one of the major ethnic groups in Togo. However, Sokodé is also home to other ethnic groups, including the Tchamba, Kabye, Gurma, and Fulani.

Sokodé holds cultural and religious importance, particularly as a center for Islam in Togo. The city has a significant Muslim population, and mosques play a vital role in the community. The central mosque in Sokodé, known as the Grand Mosque, is one of the largest and most prominent mosques in the country.

Problem

Like many other cities in Togo, Sokode faces socioeconomic challenges, including high unemployment rates, limited access to basic services, and inadequate infrastructure. Limited job opportunities and income disparities can contribute to social inequalities and discontent within the community.

Fund Needed

Al-Qoufran School is aiming to raise RM 6,000 in order to provide a copy of the Qur’an for each household at a minimum. It is our hope that this will help to further boost the literacy of the words of ALLAH among whole families in the community.

Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him): The messenger of Allah (SAW) said,”When a man dies, his deeds come to an end except for three things: sadaqah jariyah (ceaseless charity); knowledge which is beneficial, or a virtuous descendant who prays for him” (Muslim).

The proceeds of this campaign will be used to sponsor 400 Qurans to be distributed to families in the city of Sokode.

Imagine your rewards with ALLAH when an entire family learns from the Qur’an and practice it throughout  their lives Insha’Allah.

Waqf a copy of Qur’an today and spread the word of ALLAH. May it be accepted as a Sadaqah Jariyah for you – Ameen.
