Campaign Objective

Build your hereafter today by waqf a copy of the Qur’an to Muslims in Gambia. The proceeds will be used to distribute 400 copies of the Qur’an to families.

Story

Situated in West Africa, Gambia stands as a captivating nation, embodying a rich fusion of history, culture, and natural splendor. It shares borders with Senegal to the north, south, and east, with the Atlantic Ocean gracing its western shores.

Gambia's estimated population hovered around 2.5 million people. The country boasts a diverse tapestry of ethnic groups, with the largest being the Mandinka, Fula, and Wolof. Other significant ethnic communities include the Jola, Serahule, and Serer.

English serves as the official language, while various indigenous languages also thrive throughout the nation.

Religious diversity flourishes in Gambia, with a multitude of faiths practiced across the land. The majority of Gambians adhere to indigenous African beliefs, alongside a notable presence of Christianity.

Islam in Gambia

Islam holds prominence in Gambia, particularly among communities concentrated in the northern regions of the country. Introduced through trade networks, Islam has deeply woven itself into the cultural tapestry of these areas. Gambian Muslims predominantly follow Sunni Islam, with mosques serving as vital hubs for worship, learning, and communal engagement.

Approximately 90% to 95% of Gambia's population is estimated to be Muslim, with Islam exerting a significant influence, particularly in regions like Upper River and North Bank, where the majority of Muslims reside.

Problem

Like many other African countries, Gambia faces socioeconomic challenges, including high unemployment rates, limited access to basic services, and inadequate infrastructure. Limited job opportunities and income disparities can contribute to social inequalities and discontent within the community.

Fund Needed

Imam Shatibi Institute is aiming to raise RM 6,000 in order to provide a copy of the Qur’an for each household at a minimum. It is our hope that this will help to further boost the literacy of the words of ALLAH among whole families in the community.

Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him): The messenger of Allah (SAW) said,”When a man dies, his deeds come to an end except for three things: sadaqah jariyah (ceaseless charity); knowledge which is beneficial, or a virtuous descendant who prays for him” (Muslim).

The proceeds of this campaign will be used to sponsor 400 Qurans to be distributed to families in Gambia.

Imagine your rewards with ALLAH when an entire family learns from the Qur’an and practice it throughout  their lives Insha’Allah.

Waqf a copy of Qur’an today and spread the word of ALLAH. May it be accepted as a Sadaqah Jariyah for you – Ameen.
